Our Board of Directors

The Ron Wood Family Resource Center is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors whose members bring a wide range of professional expertise, life experience, and a shared passion for helping families in need. United by a commitment to strengthening the community, the board provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction to ensure the Center continues to deliver vital programs and services to those who need them most.

Trina Dahlin

BOARD CHAIR
Board Member Since 1998

Trina Dahlin is a retired attorney and served as the juvenile and child support enforcement deputy district attorney for Carson. A longtime resident, married with an adult daughter, she attended the University of Nevada, Reno, and Wayne State Law School in Detroit. She was Judge Michael Griffin’s law clerk and later began working with the Ron Wood Truancy Center. She believed the Ron Wood mission was a crucial necessity for local families.

Geré Clark

VICE CHAIR
Board Member Since 2012

Geré Clark has been a manufacturing business owner for over three decades. She’s also a mother and grandmother as well as has her own foundation, Legacy of Grace, that helps young women. She’s dedicated to helping those who need a voice or a hand up. She has gone from the foster care system herself to the board room, and she wants to show others they can do the same thing.

Vicki Preston

SECRETARY/TREASURER Board Member Since 2025

Vicki Preston has been a family and child advocate since 1997. She served on the FISH board for 6 years, was a CASA volunteer for 18 years advocating for abused and neglected children in our courts, served on the Austin’s House board for 10 years and has been on the RWFRC since March 2025. She is married to Marc and they have 5 children and 10 grandchildren. She has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1985.

Valeri Wood

Board Member Since 1995

Valeri Wood, moved to Carson City after obtaining her master’s degree from Florida State University in 1986. She married Ron Wood in 1990 and together they started their family.   After Ron’s death in 1994, the Ron Wood Family Resource Center opened, and she was invited to be a Board member where she has continued to serve for the past 31 years. Valeri’s background in social work provided a perspective that complimented the mission statement of the Center. Valeri is Licensed Clinical Social Worker who opened Carson Professional Group in 1989 providing outpatient mental health services to children, adults and families. In addition, she is contracted with the Juvenile Dependency Mediation Program providing mediations services for the Court system which focuses on child abuse and neglect statewide. She also provides custody mediations to parents who are divorcing. She has always had a heart for helping families navigate the divorce process with the goal of keeping children out of the middle.

Valeri feels blessed to be a part of an organization that is named after her husband and who focuses on the most vulnerable. As a Juvenile Probation Officer in Carson City, Ron’s focus was on keeping children safe and finding resources to assist families before and after becoming involved in the adjudication process. Valeri believes this is who Ron was and what Ron Wood Family Resource Center represents today.

Rick Redican

Board Member Since 2000

Rick Redican moved to Carson City in 1957 when he was in seventh grade and eventually became a teacher and administrator in the Carson City School District. After retiring, he went on to serve as principal at the Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic School. He has also coached various youth sports. He feels his experience helps him understand people in need, people who can range from infants to adults who are struggling just to get by.

Sheriff Kenneth T. Furlong

Board Member Since 2004

Prior to being elected sheriff in 2003, Ken Furlong served as a Carson City Fire Department dispatcher, enlisted in the US Air Force and went on to continue his work in law enforcement, public safety, investigations, parole and probation. He has introduced several new programs and reestablished a few from the past. He’s committed to enhancing law enforcement through educational opportunities, community involvement and youth/senior citizen contacts. Ken spends his free time with his family and enjoying the outdoors.

Greg Wood

Board Member Since 2015

Greg Wood is semi-retired after more than 35 years in the construction industry where his experience included management, business ownership, and consulting. Throughout his career, he was actively involved in the Carson City Builders Association and the Rotary Club. Greg moved from the Bay Area to Nevada in 1976, where he completed his education and built a life with his wife Jocelyn. They have been married for 42 years and are proud parents of four children and grandparents to seven grandchildren. Greg considers the love and support of his family and friends to be life's greatest blessing. When he is not at home, he and Jocelyn enjoy traveling together.

As the younger brother of Ron Wood, Greg is honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the Ron Wood Center. He believes the Center's mission is a meaningful tribute to Ron's lifelong passion for strengthening families, supporting children, and helping them develop the tools they need to thrive. Greg is proud to help carry forward his brother's legacy of compassion, hope, and service to the community.

Chief Ali Banister

Board Member Since 2016

Ali Banister is the Chief of Juvenile Services for Carson City and a part-time professor of juvenile law. She has worked in many capacities of the juvenile legal system including mental health services and has her Ph.D. She’s extremely passionate about bringing solutions to juvenile justice and the mental health arena, especially for youth. Ali greatly enjoys being part of the Ron Wood team.

Alan Welch

Board Member Since 2025

Alan Welch is retired from federal service with the US Geologic Service. He believes in contributing to our community and is a past president of the Kiwanis Club of the Sierra Nevada and past chair of Carson City’s Open Space Advisory Committee. As a recent member of the Board of Directors, he is increasingly impressed with the quality and breadth of the services and staff at the Center.

Jay Olshen

Board Member Since 2025

Jay Olshen’s career of 41 years with a major food equipment company has helped him gain a vast knowledge in business operations, since he wore numerous hats including: manager, trainer, liaison, corporate coordinator, technical advisor, and many more. For the last eight years, Jay has been a volunteer for Night Off the Street, with the last two years as their coordinator/scheduler. Routinely, Jay has spent numerous hours helping with various needs at his church and helps Advocates to End Domestic Violence with his wife. He has been on other boards with like desires to help people in the past. His passion for helping those less fortunate in our society runs very deep and strong. Jay feels right at home with Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

Senior Judge John Tatro

Board Member Since 2026

Senior Judge John Tatro was Justice of the Peace/Municipal Court Judge in Carson City, Department 11, from 1995 to January 2019. Judge Tatro began his judicial career as the Hearings Officer for the Nevada State Gaming Control Board serving in that capacity from 1987 -1995.

Some of Judge Tatro's judicial accomplishments are:

  • Voted 2003 Judge of the Year by the Nevada Judges Association;

  • Attended many classes at the Nevada Judicial College, and the National Center for State Courts, and has attained the highest level of judicial education - Distinguished Jurist;

  • 2008 President of the Nevada Judges Association of Limited Jurisdiction;

  • Member of the State Judicial Council;

  • Member of the Judicial Code Commission (Supreme Court Appointment);

  • Began Mental Health Court in March, 2005;

  • Member of the Specialty Court Funding Committee (Supreme Court Appointment);

  • Member of the Court Technology Committee (Supreme Court Appointment);

  • Worked with justice court staff to implement a more effective case management system;

  • Expanded the Department of Alternative Sentencing to ensure compliance with court-ordered sentences.

Judge Tatro has always felt that it is not only important to be active in his profession but also feels strongly that it is important to be very involved in the community. Some of his community involvement consists of:

  • 2000-2001 President of the Rotary Club of Carson City, serves on the Board of Trustees of the Rotary Foundation and has since 2000, and has been a member of the Rotary Club since 1995 except for a 3 year hiatus.

  • 2006 President of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, and served on the Board for 18 years.

  • Member of the steering committee for Partnership Carson City, an anti-methamphetamine coalition, commencing in 2005 until retirement.

  • Vice President of Circles of Support, an organization to end homelessness.

 Judge Tatro has also been very active with the youth in the community, having coached basketball, baseball, soccer, and taught skiing for the Carson City Recreation Program for 10 years.

Julie Roth

Board Member Since 2026

Julie Roth, CIH is a seasoned Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) executive with more than 15 years of experience leading EHS strategy across the energy and electronics manufacturing sectors. She currently serves as an HSE Director at Baker Hughes, where she drives global initiatives focused on risk reduction, regulatory compliance, and operational performance. Prior to Baker Hughes, Julie held progressive leadership roles at General Electric, where she spent a decade advancing EHS programs within complex manufacturing and industrial environments. Julie holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Toxicology from Clarkson University and is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Her expertise includes environmental compliance, industrial hygiene exposure assessment, safety management systems (including OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs), and human performance. She is an active leader in the profession through the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), where she has contributed to the Risk Committee for over 10 years and served as Chair in 2021. Julie brings to the board a strong background in risk governance, regulatory oversight, and safety culture leadership, with a track record of aligning EHS strategy to business performance.
